The 15th November will see the election of the Bedfordshire Police and crime commissioner, this new role is designed to be a link between the public and the Bedfordshire Police Authority. The new 'PCC' will serve for a 4 year term, with powers to establish the Authorities budget, hire or fire the chief constable and much more!

So who are the candidates for the Bedfordshire PCC...

Kevin Carroll - British Freedom Party
"I want to see an equal playing field with policing. Everyone should be policed equally. If not, there is a problem. Political correctness should not affect police officers. There should not be a two-tier policing system."
kevincarroll.org/

Linda Jack - Liberal Democrat
"We all have the right to feel safe in our homes, on our streets and on our roads. If elected I would make that my first priority."
www.lindajack.org.uk/

Olly Martins - Labour Party
"work hard to build strong working partnerships across the criminal justice system and beyond to ensure victims, particularly of anti-social behaviour, are met with an effective response to their needs".
www.ollymartins.org/

Jas Parmar - Conservative Party
"I believe that the candidate should not only have strong local ties, be visible and responsive, but also someone who brings a wealth of experience in policing, business and public services. I am confident I have these qualities which is why I am standing..

Mezanur Rashid - Independent
he aimed to make Bedfordshire Police more "open and transparent" and ensure local people had a greater say in the policing of Bedfordshire and more high-visibility policing.

A little background on the Bedfordshire Police Authority.

1,200 police officers
124 PCSOs
200+ volunteer special constables
900 administrative/maintenance/other staff
90 administrative/maintenance/other volunteers

Partnership Services include...
Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Dog Unit
Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Counter Terrorism and Domestic Extremism Unit
Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Scientific Services Unit

The county population (established from 2001 census returns) is dominated by the town population of Luton (207,000) with Bedford trailing (79,000), both Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard follow with populations of circa 33,00.

Barton-Le-Clay is ranked 14th with a population approaching 5,000 marginally behind the town of Shefford and Cranfield.

The estimated total population of the county is 600,000 making the Bedfordshire Police Authority 'patch' one of the smallest in the UK.

Funding is currently £100.6 million (2011-2012) which is sourced 32% from local council tax (approximately 9% of each bill) with the remainder from central government.

cant say the idea of handing over ANYTHING to Group 4 thrills me. I have ask though how can group4 do the work and make a profit but the police cant just do the job even if they don't have to make profit?

Early results a national turnout to poll of as as low as just 15% for the PPC elections held yesterday. At this time only 1 result has been declared:

Angus Macpherson: Wiltshire. Conservative 78,794 (15.3%)

(Wiltshire is the only county to hold an overnight poll count, as the others are declared through the day we will post the results)

Counting is under way at the new Stopsley 'Inspire Sports Village' of the Bedfordshire ballot, the plan is to announce each district as its counted leading to final deceleration of the overall winner.

The edl candidate is now moaning that it was an unfair election

POLICE and Crime Commissioner (PCC) candidate Kevin Carroll has claimed that his election campaign would have been fairer had it taken place in ‘Zimbabwe or China.’
